A UNLIKELY COLLABORATION

NFFF (1)

I am pleased to announce that The Batter Company are now associate members of the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF). What the deuce…? Why, you say…?

I honestly believe that I have given the NFFF some stick over the years, however most of my articles about them has been to inspire some action and rally the troop. Like always I noticed that people were not actually batting down the door of the NFFF HQ. I will not be coming into this apologising for any comments I have made in the industry about the NFFF, the point is I have seen a massive swing in direction and I can see the effort that is being made by all people involved.

After having an interesting conversation with Bill Crook the President of NFFF my mind was made up that we would love to show some support and lend a hand by becoming a NFFF Associate Member. I hope to be able to get involved and show them my unique style of opinion which I am sure those of you that like me love to bits but those that don’t well, just don’t.  I would firstly love the chance to sit in a meeting and see what happens on a day to day basis because I am sure I don’t know half of what the executive committee have to deal with.

I honestly believe that the NFFF is now on the right path and I feel confident that they have the right executive council in place and with their enthusiasm, the NFFF should flourish. The fryer needs to understand that for £2.55 per week they will get all the services that you could not get by being alone in business and also if you put the effort in you will be rewarded with friends and knowledge in the industry.

This shows that The Batter Company cares about the industry we operate in. We are always developing products to make the fish and chip experience better, and we are passionate about natural batters. We think that if the industry can get together to sort out their differences and move forward in one united force then our product can only get better.

Well done Stelios, I am sure your enthusiasm will be much appreciated.

  2. Well done Stelios, and welcome, there are trees in the woods after all and the sun seems to be getting to the roots again.
Great News for the industry of your commitment and hope others will join in, there seems to be a change happening and it will take a united front to move forward, from the comments you won’t be on your own.
We all have the potential for a quality product, supported by many companies, suppliers, manufacturers farmers, fishermen etc. but many of us don’t have the individual resources to stir up and make progress at national level. We have had so little contact, save the magazine and occassional note we would like to support you.
There aren’t many business’ that can say they have been running for 150 years with fundamentally very little change to the core product and have satisfied probably millions of people in doing so.
We look forward to a new future and don’t intend to be waiting for something to happen, We have only been in the industry for 4 years and have been amazed at the lack of cooperation and help from most within the industry. We look forward to getting involved.

Before we started we undertook training with the NFFF and although coming from fine dining, (not me Lee, who runs our shop) Lee was amazed at the knowledge he got from the few days training, one of the best investments we made, but what since, hopefully there will be improvements.

We look forward to a bright new future

    Hi Stelios,

Firstly well done! Secondly I too have noticed a big change when I started in the industry 3 years ago helping a friend NFFF was hardly ever mentioned, I have since had a shop for approx 1 year and have just joined the NFFF for the very reason you have pointed out! Good Luck – I hope it opens some new doors for you…

That’s great news Stelios. I am really pleased that the Batter Company are now associate members of the NFFF. Are your chippies members also. I would like to welcome you to the next meeting of your Area Council on 24th October because you would be able to make a great contribution to the discussion and we need new opinions.
